TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY

Modern Total Stations

Leica, Nikon and Topcon electronic, reflectorless and robotic total stations are utilized to provide maximum versatility in staffing and scope for all field crews. All field data is collected and stored on ranger electronic data collectors.

Real-time Kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK/GPS)

Leica 500 and 1200 series RTK/GPS equipment is utilized to assure fast accurate and reliable tying of control and location of existing features and topographic data

Laser Scanning

Laser Scanning is the latest and most comprehensive technological advancement in data acquisition the surveying industry could have ever conceived. Perhaps, the ultimate problem solver.

Allen & Company has implemented the Leica Scan Station II. This platform enables the user to acquire data in a 360-degree horizontal line of site and 270-degree vertical line of site. First a digital photo of the work area is taken. This photo provides a clear color photo of the work area and enables the user to evaluate site conditions and prepare a comprehensive survey map without having to visit the site in person.

Then the scanner performs the data acquisition and takes measurements every inch. The scanner acquires over 200,000 points per minute. The resulting data set is referred to as a “point cloud” The data is created in space with 3D attributes. This resulting “point cloud” allows the surveyor to prepare a variety of work products for many different consultants and applications.

A typical field scan can enable the surveyor to prepare planimetric maps for boundary surveys, topographic design surveys, detailed as-builts of interior and exterior features of buildings, quantity surveys of stock piles or excavation, as-builts of steel erection for buildings or amusement rides, 3D models of historic monuments or industrial piping. These are only a few examples of the capabilities of the scanner. With each scan a permanent record of the work site is created. This provides the end user with an exact picture of all assets lying within the project area.
