Job Description

A Project Manager (PM) guides a project from conception to completion. The goal of a project manager is to communicate effectively with internal production staff and with clients and project stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to a high-quality standard. This is a management role, and a project manager is responsible for coordinating with other team members to ensure that their tasks are completed on time and within budget. Several projects are typically in the process of being completed at any given time, and a Project Manager must be able to manage multiple aspects of the process simultaneously. Project Managers work cross-functionally and communicate with all parties involved in a project. Project Managers plan, designate, and task project resources, prepare budgets, monitor progress, lead subordinate team members, and keep stakeholders informed. The PM is responsible for assigning tasks to the right team members, checking their progress, and ensuring that each project is completed on time and to the highest standard. The PM is also responsible for updating all systems daily and verifying schedules for drafting and fieldwork tasks. The PM ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements, including boundary calculations and legal issues. This role reports to the Construction Production Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities 

  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Organize and plan project tasks and schedules.
  • Manage tasks effectively and within the set standards of the company.
  • Communicate project status proactively to stakeholders and key project participants.
  • Stay aware of company goals and strategies to ensure projects align with business priorities.
  • Facilitate and encourage collaboration across departments to ensure projects are completed successfully.
  • Delegate work to team members based on skills and expertise.
  • Optimize project deliverables, schedule, and budgeting.
  • Work with proposal teams to develop cost estimates and project plans.
  • Create presentations and reports to communicate project status.
  • Keep the project team focused on the end goal.
  • Assisting in establishing CAD and quality control standards and utilizing these standards to minimize hours required to complete a task.
  • Assisting with interviewing and selecting job candidates for placement within the department.
  • Assisting with input on the employee annual review process.
  • Provide top-notch customer service and communication to clients.
  • Assist with creating proposals, estimates, and contracts.
  • Keeping current on industry best practices, technology, and compliance/regulations.
  • Engaging in professional development training sessions to evolve Project Management, leadership, or surveying skills.
  • Reviewing, commenting, providing quality assurance and control on assigned projects.
  • Schedule and track project work such as drafting and fieldwork tasks.
  • Pre-brief and de-brief job progress with staff daily.
  • Responsible for the record keeping and documentation of assigned projects.
  • Responsible for plotting and checking drawings.
  • Communicate schedule delays and issues proactively with clients.
  • Attends Project Management and department meetings as necessary.
  • Attending project meetings, tradeshows, conferences, and client events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Construction Production Manager.

Qualifications and Education Requirements​ 

  • Demonstrable problem-solving project management experience and skills.
  • A bachelor’s degree in project management, Drafting, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related fields may be recommended.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, techniques, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Proficiency in Project Management tools and software.
  • Experience with cloud-based hosting platforms and version control tools.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant land survey experience, including field staff management experience.
  • Minimum of five years of operational land surveying experience.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with survey drafting software: Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, Land Development Desktop.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify sources of measurement errors.
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles, regulations, techniques, and procedures,
  • Knowledge of boundaries, topography, platting, construction stakeout, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles of survey measurement, staking, and marking.
  • PSM preferred but not required.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills.
  • Strong knowledge of math, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong work ethic and team-player attitude.
  • Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements.

Physical Demands 

The familiar work environment for this position is an indoor business office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently sit, talk, or hear, and will occasionally stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms.

Availability/Schedule 

This schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Travel 

This role may require local travel. All employees are expected to be familiar with and adhere to the Company’s Vehicle Safety Policies. Any employee who operates a company vehicle is required to always fully comply with all aspects of this policy.
